This page will serve as a brief introduction into Raw Foods. We intend to go into immense detail throughout the articles and resources that are featured in this blog. We are not sure what has brought you here, whether it has been a series of maybe not so random events or sparked curiosity, but we do intend to make sure you leave with the knowledge you need to leap forward and pursue the raw lifestyle. So whether or not you are just thinking about going raw, have been raw for a couple months and want to keep the excitement or are a seasoned pro, we are certain that you’ve come to the right place.
That’s an easy question to answer. Raw Foods are foods that have not been cooked, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and herbs. They are foods that probably already consume on a daily basis (such as the bananas in your morning bowl of cereal or the apple with your lunch). Once raw food is heated above a certain temperature (most raw foodist consider this to be 116 degrees Fahrenheit), the food is considered cooked and important enzymes are destroyed. Just as a side note, enzymes are catalysts of all reactions in the human body (and the raw foods mentioned above contain naturally occurring enzymes, which are very good for you).
Raw Foods have an abundance of all the vital nutrients our bodies need to grow and maintain optimal health. Raw Foods more often than not contain greater amounts of vitamins and minerals than their cooked counterparts.
A common misconception about the raw food lifestyle is that one will be reduced to eating nothing but carrot sticks and salads for the rest of their lifestyle. That is not true! There is an abundance of information out there and recipes that will help you adapt to this new lifestyle with ease and shake things up a bit in terms of trying new combinations of foods. There are raw recipes from cheesecake to pizza and everything in between. As time progresses many of these recipes, along with resources, articles and interviews, will be featured on this blog.
